Avery Sunshine

Avery Sunshine is an enigmatic artist, performer and composer. The singer combines soul gospel jazz with R&B for a distinctive mixture. She has performed on Broadway as well as at the Democratic National Convention and in the European clubs and festivals. Sunshine is the daughter of Denise White. She is originally from Chester Pennsylvania, where she started her musical career by playing the piano and singing in church. She attended Spellman College and began to study the R&B style of Atlanta. She took on the role of primary keyboardist at Tyler Perry's stage show Meet the Browns. Jennifer Holliday was the Grammy and Tony Award winner who approached her in 2007 to serve as the director of chorus for Dreamgirls which was a stage production in Atlanta's National Black Arts Festival. Sunshine came to national attention during four daily shows at the 2008 Democratic National Convention and was subsequently invited to sing at the inauguration of President Obama in 2009.
